골프 팁: 잔디깎이 시동을 걸고, 피벗을 고쳐라

If you’re shifting side-to-side in your backswing, you’re not pivoting — you’re swaying. And that’s killing your consistency.

This week, Darren deMaille from QuickFixGolf.com shares a visual and physical drill that’s as simple as starting a lawnmower. Literally.

Why Pivot Matters

Most amateur golfers lose power and control because they sway instead of turning. A proper pivot lets your lead shoulder work down toward the ball — not across your body — and that’s the key to solid contact.

How to Do the Lawnmower Drill

You’ll need:

  • 1 alignment stick

  • 1 short piece of string

Stick the alignment rod in the ground at a 45° angle. Place the string at its base and hold one end in each hand.

Now pull with your trail hand, then your lead hand — just like you’re yanking a lawnmower cord. You’ll feel your hips turn and your lead shoulder work down into the swing, not across or away from it.

Once you get that feel, grab your club and recreate the motion. Better pivot = better ball striking.

Most amateur golfers lose strokes around the green—not from distance, but from poor contact. Whether you’re chunking it short or skulling it long, the problem usually comes down to setup and swing path.

Build Your Chipping Station

To create your practice setup, you’ll need three alignment sticks:
