Fire Ridge's two nines are very different. The front dates to 1929, and the back opened in 1999. The front has been updated several times without changing the original layout. It's wide open, most greens are in view from the tee box, and a good recovery can still save par.
The back is what plenty of golfers would call a target course. It's shorter, but a few of its tough tee shots are blind. On the 16th you choose between two fairways split by a grove of trees, and going left saves a lot of yardage. On the 17th, stay short of the first ravine, because a second, smaller ravine waits beyond it.
