Fans of Bonanza will catch the reference right away. The Heinlein family named their 250 acre course after the show's family ranch, and Herbert Heinlein opened Ponderosa in 1965. The business is family owned and operated.
The course rolls through the hills of Beaver County in Western Pennsylvania, only a short drive from the West Virginia line, and stretches more than 6,600 yards.
After the round, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full bar, and the cooking is the home style kind, served in a glass enclosed dining room. The balcony looks out over the course and the practice green. For a birthday or graduation party, two dining rooms hold 100 people inside, and two outside pavilions take about 40 people.
