Walk nine at Red Arrow and you've covered about a mile. It's a par 29 executive nine on riverside parkland, minutes from downtown Kalamazoo, and it plays quickly. There are no reserved tee times, and you can rent clubs on site.
The city of Kalamazoo built it in 1937 as a pitch and putt, part of the WPA's Depression work. Its name comes from Col. Joseph Westnedge's division in World War I, and the course honors veterans. A memorial flagpole marked its 75th anniversary in 2013, with Eagle Scout Chaz Shugars raising the money from veterans' groups and local businesses.
Footgolf came along in 2015, and disc golf followed in 2016. The Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association runs Red Arrow, and in summer a lot of the Kalamazoo Junior Golf Association's events are played here.
