Why Your Wrist Position Matters
Your lead wrist at the top of the swing plays a critical role in determining your clubface angle—open, closed, or square. If you want more consistency in your shots, mastering this position is key.
The Carrabba’s Spoon Drill
Here’s a surprisingly effective training tool: a sturdy spoon. Darren deMaille from QuickFixGolf.com recommends grabbing one from your closest Carrabba’s, but any sturdy spoon will do. Slide it into your golf glove so it rests along the back of your lead wrist. This provides instant feedback on whether you’re keeping your wrist flat or letting it break down during your swing.
How to Do It:
- Slide a metal spoon into your glove, flat against your wrist.
- Take your normal grip.
- Swing back slowly and feel the spoon’s contact with your wrist.
- If it stays flat: you’re square.
- If it bends away: your wrist is extended and the face is opening.
- If it presses in: your wrist is flexed and the face is closing.
