Struggling with a slice or a hook? It might not just be your setup or swing—it could be how you finish. In this week’s TeeTime Golf Pass Golf Tip of the Week, Darren deMaille from QuickFixGolf.com explains how your finish position can shape your ball flight more than you might think.
Even though a scientist might argue you can’t influence the ball once it’s left the clubface, as golfers, we know the finish is key. Here’s how to train it:
Point-to-Target Drill
-
Insert an alignment stick into the grip of your club.
-
After impact, focus on finishing with the club (or stick) pointing toward your target.
-
This helps promote better rotation and re-hinging of the club, especially if you tend to miss shots to the right.
Picture Frame Finish
-
Visualize creating a “picture frame” with your left arm and the club in your follow-through.
-
This ensures your finish is tight, controlled, and aimed where you want the ball to go.
Remember: the ball is just getting in the way of your swing. Train the finish you want, and you’ll train the ball flight you want.
