TeeTime Golf Pass Golf Tip of the Week: Stop the Sway

If you’ve ever hit the turf before the ball and felt the shame of the double strike, you’re not alone—and you’re probably swaying off the ball. In this week’s TeeTime Golf Pass Tip of the Week, Darren deMaille from QuickFixGolf.com breaks down how to stop the sway and start striking the ball first.

Why You’re Hitting the Ground First

When your hips slide instead of rotate, your body weight shifts too far behind the ball during the backswing. This often results in hitting behind the ball and losing both power and accuracy.

The Fix: The Chair Drill

To correct this, Darren recommends a simple fix:

  1. Grab a folding chair and set it against your right hip.

  2. As you take your backswing, focus on not pushing the chair back.

  3. Instead, create space between your leg and the chair—this encourages hip rotation, not slide.

Bonus Visualization: The Hot Sauce Hack

Using a bottle of Crystal Hot Sauce (or anything cylindrical), Darren demonstrates how proper hip rotation should work—moving in a circular motion, not side to side.

With this drill, you’ll stop swaying, hit the ball first, and finally eliminate that frustrating double strike.

Build Your Chipping Station

To create your practice setup, you’ll need three alignment sticks:
