Garrisons Lake almost became a housing development. Charlie and Dot Ewing founded the club on their own land, but in 2004 the course closed after a developer bought it and announced plans for more than 300 homes. Officials and the community worked together, and the State of Delaware bought the property and kept it as open space.
Delaware's Division of Parks and Recreation renovated the course, and it reopened in 2008. Edmund Ault's routing is basically unchanged, while his son Brian designed the updates. The greens came back bigger, with undulation and irregular shapes.
It stretches to 7,060 yards from the tips, but you don't have to play it that way. Signs by the range and the first tee match your driver distance to the right tees.
