South Grove is two miles from downtown Indianapolis, close enough that the skyline is part of the view. It's named for the trees that line the property's south side.
It dates to 1902, and local architect Harry Schopp, the man behind Pleasant Run and Sarah Shank, laid it out. The ground is fairly flat, but the fairways are tight and lined with trees, and the greens and tees sit up on the gentle hills and plateaus.
Plenty of the city's amateur tournaments have been played here over the years. The most popular is the South Grove Spring Four-Ball, which goes back to 1948 and gets going every April.
