Baltimore had no public golf course until Clifton Park opened. It was built in 1915. The 1st hole starts right beside Clifton Mansion, and from the first green the view runs south to Clifton Tower and the city skyline.
The course likes to picture Johns Hopkins up in that tower with his telescope, scanning for one of his merchant ships. A few blocks off, Baltimore City College High School sits up high, known as the "Castle on the Hill."
It's an 18-hole par 71 with PGA management. Since 1985 it's been run by the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation, a nonprofit that looks after all of Baltimore's Classic Five courses.
