Furnace Bay first opened in May 2000, a public, daily fee course of 18 holes in Perryville, in Cecil County, Maryland. It's bent grass everywhere from tee to green, and you can walk or take a cart.
The course's own hole tips point out the water. Hit the approach long on No. 2 and you could end up fishing in Furnace Bay itself. No. 8 is a par 3 over a pond with the original red barn behind it.
Loosen up on the driving range and practice green. The snack bar serves breakfast and lunch, sandwiches and cold beer on tap, with seats inside, at picnic tables or in the gazebo. Seniors play their league on Thursdays, lunch included, and outings gather at the open air pavilion behind the clubhouse.
