One green at Blue Heron serves three holes. Architect Richard Mandell didn't have room for three separate greens, so he designed one putting surface with six feet of elevation between its sections, and each hole comes in from its own direction.
Space was tight. Queen Anne's County first had a nine-hole short course here, and Mandell's eighteen-hole executive layout took in a new tract set off by Price Creek, an inlet that empties into the Chesapeake Bay. His design adds long ridges and subtle mesas that tie into the ground around them. Runoff drains into six connected ponds, and they feed a wetland and creek alongside the fourteenth.
