Great Hope comes from the same mind as Erin Hills, the 2017 US Open venue. Dr. Michael Hurdzan had a hand in both, and he routed this links-style course through more than 200 acres of wetland and woods in Somerset County. It opened in 1995. The name comes from a Skipjack, one of the boats local watermen used to dredge oysters.
On No. 7, a par 3, the tee shot has to carry water the whole way. No. 14 is a par 5 that dares you to go for it, with a hazard and out of bounds running the entire left side. Laying up is the other option.
Anyone can stop into the Caddy Shack snack bar, which pours beer and liquor, inside or out. Ocean City and Chincoteague beaches are under an hour's drive.
