You can't see the landing area from the 14th tee at Marywood. Find it, and the par 5 hands you a choice: carry the huge dip, or play short into the bottom of it and come back up the hill to the green.
That's the kind of ground Maurice McCarthy had to work with. The club was founded in 1926, and McCarthy designed the course around the rolling, wooded terrain in Battle Creek. It's within an hour of Ann Arbor, Lansing and Grand Rapids.
The 10th is a short par 4 that tempts big hitters, but the club makes the case for a mid iron to the raised, sloping green. The 18th is a long par 5 bending right, where a long iron lay-up leaves most golfers a short iron in.
