Built in 2000 just off I-94 in Grass Lake, Calderone mixes links and parkland golf: a front nine shaped after British links, a back nine in the traditional mold. The land is hilly, the greens big and rolling, and the back tees stretch past 7,000 yards.
Course and card both make No. 4, a long par 4, the 1 handicap hole, with pot bunkers down the right. No. 2 is a par 3 that plays up to 231 yards, uphill into a shallow green behind a deep bunker. No. 17 climbs too, and you can't see the green from the tee.
Afterward, the clubhouse pours craft beer and the big covered patio suits a sandwich. Men's, women's and couples leagues play nine holes with a cart, and seniors team up in pairs for a scramble on Monday mornings.
