An island green edged in oyster shells is where this course got its name. That's No. 17, a par 3.
Dan Maples built the course on a stretch of Carolina marshland, and after it opened in 1983 it helped put the North Strand on golf's national map.
The range has grass tees, and there's a short-game area plus a putting green shaped like the ones out on the course. The Oyster Bay Grill does breakfast, lunch and drinks, with fresh seafood and Carolina barbecue, and it looks out over the marsh.
It isn't a long course, and it doesn't need to be. Cavernous bunkers, wildly rolling greens and long par 4s keep you honest the whole way, while the fairways wind past marsh, ancient oaks and the odd alligator.
