Jack Shakshober decided it was time to take his own golf seriously. So in 1976 he laid out nine holes over the family farm in Copake, working with the natural lay of the land. Today his daughter Trish MacArthur runs the course with her husband John, the superintendent, and their daughter Sarah. There are mixed, men's and women's leagues during the week, plus women's clinics and a junior camp.
You look out at the Taconic Range of the Berkshires to the east and the Catskills to the west. The greens are small and the fairways narrow. The ground rolls, but it's easily walked, and there are carts if you'd rather ride.
