Golfers have been teeing it up at Turkeyfoot Lake since 1925. It's an 18-hole public layout in the Portage Lakes part of Akron, with trees lining the fairways.
Leagues here run 18 weeks, with two extra weeks built in for rainouts. The pavilion holds up to 144 people, so a company or family outing fits with room to spare. PGA professionals give private and group lessons, and the practice area works on a bring-your-own-balls basis. Coming from out of town? The course pairs a round with a night at one of three partner hotels near Canton.
