Cliffs topping 100 feet, deep lakes, streams and natural waste areas: that's what an 1800s quarry left behind in Canton, Ohio, and The Quarry plays through all of it. It's still mostly wooded, with tree-lined fairways and rock outcroppings and native grass around the holes.
It's a public par 72, bentgrass from tee to green, with five sets of tees, the longest at 7,015 yards. The course rates No. 5 its toughest, a 437-yard par 4 from the back. No. 11 is the long one, a 551-yard par 5.
Warm up at the target greens, and ask the pro shop about leagues. After the round, the Granite Grille has a fireplace room, a covered patio and a central bar, and it's open to non-golfers. The clubhouse sits at the tip of a big quarry lake, looking back over the closing holes.
