Potter's Park Golf Course Details

In May 1954, a 14-year-old Jack Nicklaus won the Tri-State, a high school invitational, at Potter's Park with a round of 64. It was one of his first tournament wins, and the scorecard from that day is on display at Columbus's Jack Nicklaus Museum.

The course exists because of a man who never played golf. In 1925, Ellis Potter gave Hamilton 100 acres on the condition that they become a public course. He'd played in the wooded hills along New London Road when he was a boy. About 4,000 Hamiltonians chipped in to finish the course, and both nines opened in 1927.
