Creeks and ponds are part of the setting at National Golf Links, a links-style course in South Charleston that the club says has a European feel. The fairways are a bluegrass and rye mix, and the bent grass greens are big. Play it all the way back and it's 7,200 yards.
Robert W. Whitmer founded it, and his daughter, Merry Krempasky, manages it. It opened as a nine in May 1995 and grew to 18 holes in May 2000. The club offers private and group lessons, and juniors get a clinic held in Robert Whitmer's memory. Kids work on swing, etiquette and the rules, along with nine core values.
