Thomas McBroom left much of the Hockley Valley land alone. The Canadian architect fit bent grass fairways into the ground as he found it, and rolling hills of fescue frame them. It's been here since 1990, in Mono, about 45 minutes north of Toronto.
No need to hold out for the clubhouse. The 5 & 12 outlet sits between the 5th green and the 12th tee, with snacks, drinks and a washroom.
It's a full resort, so you can stay the night. There are guest rooms, a spa and Babbo Wine Bar & Patio, where the local beer on tap keeps changing. Some of what the kitchens serve is grown right here, on a two-acre organic farm.
