Oak Bay Golf Club details

Oak Bay Golf Club in Port Severn is a must-play for golfers who love natural beauty paired with a modern design challenge. Set along the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, the course winds through wetlands, rocky outcroppings, and pine forest—capturing everything people love about Muskoka golf. It's a challenging course with tree-lined fairways, without much room for mistakes. The 18-hole layout, designed by Shawn Watters, plays to a par 72 and stretches over 6,600 yards from the back tees. Elevation changes, water carries, and dramatic visuals make every hole unique. The opening stretch plays gently, easing you into rhythm, but the back nine ramps up—especially the closing holes, which demand both accuracy and courage. The greens are large and contoured, with subtle breaks that reward a confident putting stroke. Fairways are generous but deceptive—miss on the wrong side and you’ll fight tricky lies or obstructed approaches. Water comes into play on nearly half the holes, but always as a design feature, never a gimmick. Oak Bay’s clubhouse, restaurant, and patio overlook the finishing holes, offering panoramic views of Georgian Bay. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined—perfect for golfers who want Muskoka-level quality without resort pretension. Oak Bay feels like an adventure every time you tee it up.

In the fall of 2023, I struggled through a round of 18 holes at my favorite local course. For several months, I
