On August 4, 1920, Stanley Thompson played in the foursome that opened Windermere's first nine holes. His firm, Thompson, Cumming and Thompson, had laid the course out on Lake Rosseau, and by 1926 it had grown to 18 holes.
Every hole has a name. Long Reach, the fourth, is an uphill par 4 that plays longer than its yardage, and it has the fastest and most sloped green on the course, so stay below the hole. The 7th, MacLeod's Pond, took its name from Jim MacLeod when he retired as the club's pro. Pulpit, the 11th, is a par 3 where the wind picks your club, with sand left and a hazard right.
You'll play through granite outcroppings and tall white pines in Muskoka, and you can get something to eat and drink out on the course.
