Green Pond calls itself The Public's Country Club, and anyone can play this Alex Findley design in Bethlehem. From the Blue tees the par 71 runs 6,382 yards, rated 70.9 with a slope of 132. The card gives the 1 handicap to No. 5, a 420-yard par 4 from the Blues. Watch the boundaries late: on Nos. 17 and 18 the fence is out of bounds, and so is a ball that crosses the road. Green Pond is home to the Lehigh Valley Amateur, which began in 1934 as an invitation for the region's club champions and now takes upwards of 400 amateurs. The Green Pond Golf Association plays a 15 event schedule plus open days like the Hawaiian Shirt Open. Seniors play weekly, ages 60 to 74 from the Gold tees and 75 and up from the Reds. There's a full service restaurant, a pro shop and lessons.
