Blackwood started out as a dairy farm. Brothers Cuthbert and Gordan Nairn turned it into a golf course, William F. Gordon designed the 18 holes, and the family has owned and run it since the day it opened. It spreads over 120 acres of rural Douglassville, and Center City Philadelphia is just under an hour away.
The farm ground brings streams, ponds, mature trees and gently rolling hills into play, along with raised greens and strategic bunkering. The greens are on the small side. A few holes are short, but from the back tees the par 3s and the ever-present wind can make it play longer than it looks. The forward tees suit newer players. In recent years the fairways were widened and the rough cut lower.
For outings, two covered pavilions take private and corporate groups of any size.
