River Forest is where you can try Whing Golf. Instead of swinging, you throw your way down the fairway with a Whinger, which holds the ball until you let it go. On the green you switch to a putter and finish like normal. The club says no other course on the East Coast offers it.
The golf itself has long been known for being walkable, with target greens that make you work for them, according to the club. It covers 300 wooded acres of western Pennsylvania hill country in Freeport, about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh.
There's an indoor simulator next to the bar and restaurant, and the pro shop rents bikes for the Tredway Trail.
