In 1929 Bucknell's trustees approved the final payment on a farm bought for a golf course, and the club opened on Homecoming in 1930. Emil Loeffler designed it. His brother, Archie Loeffler, ran the construction.
It started as nine holes. In 1964 Edward Ault redesigned it as 18, taking in the Herman farm across Smoketown Road and adding a large pond at 12 and 13.
Bucknell's men's and women's golf teams play here, and it's hosted US Open Qualifiers more than once. The PGA pros teach year-round at the Bachman Golf Center next door. The 3rd runs 601 yards as a par 5, and the club singles it out for the views along with the 13th and 16th.
