Wedgefield sits on the Black River in Georgetown, on the south end of the Grand Strand, and its two nines don't play the same. The front spreads out wide. Then the land starts to roll as you get near the water, and holes 11 to 14 play along a chain of ponds.
Porter Gibson and Bob Toski designed it, and it was built in 1972. Most of the bunkers sit around the greens, so your second shot is the one that has to be right. Once you're on, the breaks are subtle.
The building that houses the Brick House Pub has stood for more than 300 years, and inside it's finished in reclaimed cypress from the property. You can put in a food order on the 8th or 17th hole and pick it up at the front of the pub.
