Hat Creek was a tobacco farm until 1975. That's when Grandpa James and a buddy rented a bulldozer, cleared the land and built "push up" greens. Back then no other course was within 30 miles, and few people in the area knew how to play.
His son Bill took over running the place, and over 15 years he redesigned all but one of the greens. The 8th is the only hole left from when it first opened. It's still the Singleton family's course.
The club calls the 4th a favorite. It's a full-length public nine-hole course, and the range has three hitting tiers.
