Locals call the 6th at Lake Gaston the Rock Hole. You clear a stream off the tee, and once you're on the green you'll see why: the hollows in the rock there are thought to have been washing spots for early Indian tribes.
The 18 holes wind through wooded country in Gasburg, about 17 miles from I-95, and the same from I-85. Some fairways are wide open, some are narrow chutes, and some holes sit up on plateaus above the lakes and ponds.
Water shows up again later. On the 12th you carry a pond from raised tees, and the 17th green has water on three sides. The 14th is only 99 yards, but its green has two levels and slopes, and lots of golfers walk off it with a 5 or higher.
