Algie Pulley gave Piankatank River two very different nines. The front rambles through the woods and over seven springs and streams, with more than 100 feet of elevation change. Then the back nine flattens out, and three of its holes run along the Piankatank River itself.
The club opened in July 1996 on 400 acres, and wetlands come into play on plenty of holes. On the 9th your tee shot has to carry them.
The club's symbol is a steamboat, and its restaurant is the Steamboat. The steamer Piankatank used to stop at Freeport, on the far side of the river from Woodstock Plantation, before heading back to Baltimore.
