No other course in Virginia has hosted a major. Sam Snead won the 1949 PGA Championship at Belmont, and Ben Hogan took the 1945 Richmond Invitational here too.
A.W. Tillinghast designed it in 1917, when it opened as Hermitage Country Club. First Tee Greater Richmond runs it now, and in 2020 it brought in Love Golf Design, who went back to the original drawings and restored holes 7 through 18. Those are the 12 holes you play today, with 64 bunkers along the way.
