Billy Cooke wanted a golf course close to home in Tappahannock, a place to share the game he loved with his town. James Moore and Willie Cleaton, friends of his, helped him open it in 1996.
The design came from Jeffrey Timmons and Associates, a Richmond firm. It plays to 6,700 yards. It's semi-private, but the public can play. Want a preview? The website has drone footage of every hole.
There's no golf store anywhere in the area, so the pro shop stocks a full line of clubs, clothes and accessories. Prince St. Cafe does breakfast and lunch. Thursday night is league night.
