Plan your way around the 4th at Blue Heron. It's a par 5, and the drive has to deal with a fairway bunker that has water sitting just past it. Plenty of golfers have to lay up with their second. That leaves an approach into a small green with trouble around it, and it's the hardest hole out there.
Dan Maples designed all three courses at Ford's Colony, a few minutes from historic Williamsburg, and Blue Heron is the longest of them. The fairways are wide and run through thick wetlands. The Champion Bermuda greens putt smooth all year. The par 3s are long, and the par 5s can look intimidating.
