The tee shot on No. 8 covers only 43 yards, but it drops downhill to a long plateau green, and anything that slips off heads for a pond below.
That's the shortest hole at The Shoe, the nine-hole par 3 course Rees Jones designed beside the Gold Course at Colonial Williamsburg's Golden Horseshoe. It opened on July 4, 2025.
From the 4th green you look across to the Gold Course, at its 12th hole and the island green on its 16th. On No. 6, the back of the green curls up into a bowl, so a shot that runs long can feed back toward the cup. The 9th plays from a raised tee in the pines, with the clubhouse and the Williamsburg Inn in view.
The big putting course has its own nine-hole route, or you can make up a game with cross-course putts.
