Beaver Creek splits Old Hickory in two, and the smaller creeks that feed it trickle all through the property. Architect Tim Freeland worked them into his holes, and on about half of them he didn't need to move any dirt. Look for No. 2, where waterfalls start beside the elevated tee and run under the trees into the lake. Then there's No. 14, a par 5 where your second shot has to pick its way past quartz boulders to a green set up on a ledge, rock outcroppings off its left side. The fairways are wide, and mounds along the sides kick balls back toward the middle. Every hole has bunkers, but it never feels overdone. The greens are A4 bentgrass, a grass known for running fast.
