Herons, wild turkeys, deer, mallards, red tail hawks and red fox may share your round at Mountaineer's Woodview, and every so often an eagle does too.
The course sits in the Appalachian foothills of West Virginia's Northern Panhandle. Robert Hillis designed it, and it opened in 1957. It's 18 holes played among the trees and several lakes, and anyone can come out and play.
It's just off the Ohio River near where West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania meet, so Pittsburgh, Youngstown and Wheeling golfers aren't far away. Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort is just minutes away. There's a league every weekday, and the course can connect you with the league that fits your schedule.
