No houses line any hole at Quinton Oaks. The 18 holes cross rolling farmland on Virginia's Northern Neck, some out in the open and some ducking in and out of the woods, and the back nine brings in two lakes.
It's player friendly on purpose. There are no fairway bunkers, the greenside bunkers are shallow, the walks from green to tee are short, and there's more trouble down the left than the right, a nod to everyone who slices. The red tees follow guidelines set by Alice Dye. From the blues it plays 6,132 yards.
The range and practice green sit by the clubhouse and the first tee, and PGA professional Dean Sumner teaches lessons and clinics. The clubhouse has a full service restaurant. Men 50 and up play a Tuesday seniors league, the ladies' association goes out every Wednesday, and Thursday brings a mixed scramble.
