You'll see the clubhouse before you see the first tee. It's a gray castle with pennants up on its turrets. Some 750,000 tons of stone line the cart paths, tees and water hazards.
Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry routed the course over farmland and wooded hills, with Connoquenessing Creek winding through every part of it. It opened in 1999, with bent grass on the greens and fairways.
Halfway Castle keeps you going between nines with breakfast wraps and sandwiches. When you're done, Shakespeare's Restaurant and Pub pours from a 40 foot peninsula bar, and its patio sits right above the 18th green.
