Half of the Presidential was cut out of an old nursery. Hickory Valley bought land from a neighboring nursery, carved new holes through it and paired them with holes from the club's original layout. The Presidential opened in June 1996.
The front and back play differently. The front is open and wide, with rolling greens and plenty of sand, water and environmentally sensitive ground to steer around. After the turn it tightens a bit, working through tall mature hardwoods to smaller greens where you have to shape your shots. The club says the closing holes need your full focus.
Every four weeks, the leagues rotate through all 36 holes.
