Charles "Chub" Loreno worked as an excavation contractor, and he started shaping Pine Hill out of farmland ringed by woods. The 100 acres in Mercer County's Sugar Grove Township belonged to him and his brother. In 1970, nine more holes went in through the woods, weaving around that first nine.
It's a public par 72 just outside Greenville. Early on, it drew blue-collar golfers who worked the area's railroads and mills, and it became a home for leagues and everyday play. There's a free agent form if you want a spot on a league. Chub and his son CB looked after Pine Hill for 52 years.
