Galen Hall's course was laid out for guests of the Galen Hall Hotel and Resort, a magnet for celebrities. Frank Sinatra and Milton Berle both stayed there, and in 1927 Fred and Adele Astaire played a foursome with Bob Middleton, the pro at the time, and his assistant Henry Moyer. Fire destroyed the hotel on Easter Sunday in 1963, but the course and restaurant kept going.
The famous hole is the 15th, the Moat Hole, a par 3 to a green surrounded by water. The greens are small and fast, the 7th has severe slopes, and the 14th is a 453-yard par 4 with creeks in play.
Spark Golf runs as a 9-hole social league for two-person teams. Down in the Pub there's a full bar, a dance floor and a deck looking out at South Mountain, and the Pavilion holds up to 130.
