The first members at Iron Masters picked rocks off the fairways themselves. In 1960 a fund drive, kicked off by a stock sale, set out to give southern Blair County 18 holes of its own, and Ed Ault laid them out on 230 acres of old farmland on Bloomfield Hill. It opened in May 1962.
It plays as a par 72, 6,527 yards from the blues, and from those tees the 548-yard 14th is the longest hole.
The best-ball Iron Masters Classic has owned the last weekend of July since 1977. For a beer and a sandwich, there's Lefty's Lounge, named for Robert "Lefty" Carles, a dedicated club employee.
