Jack Nicklaus shot 67 from the back tees at Chardon Lakes, and it's still the course record. He and Arnold Palmer came out in the early seventies for American Cancer Society benefits hosted by Don Tincher, who'd been at the course since 1950. Chardon Lakes has also hosted several Cleveland Open qualifiers, back when it was a Nationwide Tour stop, and nobody in those fields beat it.
The course goes back to 1931, when Bert Way designed the first nine. Way also designed Firestone North. Tincher and Carroll Bazler designed the second nine, which opened in 1963.
It winds through the trees, past creeks and a few ponds, and water comes into play on 11 holes. Most of the talk is about the greens. They're big, sloped and quick.
For a regular game, there's a Quota League and a Friday night mixed couples league.
