Take the circular stairs up through one of the silos at Legend Lake and you come out in the Legend Bar & Grill, under a gambrel roof that features the original barn wood. There's a big window at each end of the room, and the course fills both.
The barn makes sense here. Reece Alexander designed the course in 1968 on a 200-acre dairy farm in Geauga County, and he put in more than 4,000 trees. The pines, elms and maples have had 40 years to grow up, and now they toughen up holes that wind around Legend Lake and Legend Creek.
It's known as a shot maker's course, with quick, subtle greens. There's even a practice hole to go with the range and short game area.
The club's own claim to fame, though, is pace: a full round in under 4 hours.
