The money for Blairhampton came from an island. In the early 1950s a father and son, Andrew and Dave Shuyler, built a causeway out to Shuyler's Island, then split the island into lots and sold them to pay for a golf course. Robert F. Moote laid out the first 9 holes, and they opened for public play in 1966.
The Shuylers later sold to the current owners, who put up a clubhouse and driving range, then brought in architect John F. Robinson to work 9 more holes into the layout. Clearing the land alone took two years. Blairhampton finally opened as a full 18 on July 1, 1999.
Thursday is Men's Night, and the clubhouse restaurant serves food and drinks. Out on the course, the terrain keeps changing and you'll see wildlife along the way.
