"Let's build our own." Robert Powell said it on a snowy January night in 1960, to friends tired of hunting for tee times at an overcrowded local course. Archie Loeffler staked out 18 holes between Ellwood City and Wampum, and the first nine holes opened over Labor Day weekend in 1961. Delmar still belongs to its stockholders.
What they built is a par 72 with tree-lined fairways and fast greens, and three sets of tees. Ellwood City's high school golf team calls it home. Wednesday nights bring league golf and Wing Night at the Tin Cup Grille, with more than 11 flavors.
